Learning Motivation, Ability to read Al-Qur'an

Abstract

The Al-Qur'an is the main guideline for Muslims, who in the process of reading it are bound by certain rules, so mastery of the science of recitation is required so that the reading is in accordance with the provisions. This research aims to analyze the relationship between interest in learning the science of recitation and understanding of recitation on the ability to read the Al-Qur'an. The research uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods. The research subjects were 36 class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Bogor City. Data was collected through questionnaire instruments and Al-Qur'an reading ability tests, then analyzed using correlational statistical techniques. The results of the research show that interest in learning Tajwid science has a significant and dominant influence on students' ability to read the Al-Qur'an, while partial understanding of Tajweed does not show a significant influence, although theoretically it still plays a role as a supporting factor. Simultaneously, interest in learning and understanding Tajwid were able to explain 22.1% of the variation in Al-Qur'an reading ability. These findings indicate that affective factors, especially interest in learning, have a greater role than theoretical mastery alone. Therefore, efforts need to be made to improve the ability to read the Al-Qur'an through strengthening motivation, growing interest in learning, and getting used to sustainable reading practices.
