Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of digital technology as a means of learning innovation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to address the challenges of the globalization era.The primary background of this research is the relevance gap between conventional PAI teaching methods and the characteristics and needs of the digital native generation (Generation Z and Alpha). Using a library research method with a qualitative approach, this study analyzes recent literature to synthesize relevant concepts and strategies.

The findings indicate that learning innovation in PAI is a necessity driven by the educational paradigm shift towards competency-based learning, as reflected in the Merdeka Curriculum. Digital technologies, such as e-learning platforms, interactive media, gamification, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), serve as strategic pedagogical tools to create personalized, interactive learning experiences capable of stimulating higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). However, the greatest challenge in PAI innovation is to preserve the authenticity and ruh (spirit) of Islamic teachings. Therefore, the role of the teacher is transformed not only into a technological innovator but also into a murabbi (spiritual educator) and role model who ensures that every innovation is anchored in strengthening faith and forming noble character (akhlakul karimah). The effective and meaningful utilization of digital technology is key to fostering a generation of Muslims who are both digitally proficient and spiritually grounded
