Ummi's method, difficulty reading the Al-Quran

Abstract

Inability to read the Qur'an according to the rules of tajwid and good makharijul letters will result in fatal errors such as changes in meaning. At TPQ Modern Al Karim, there are still several difficulties found in learning to read the Al-Qur'an, such as students who cannot read, different levels of understanding and a lack of role for parents in monitoring children's learning progress. To achieve fluency when reading the Al-Qur'an and overcome errors that occur, appropriate Al-Qur'an learning methods are needed, one of which is the Ummi method. This research is qualitative research using a case study design, while data collection was carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. Research subjects used purposive sampling consisting of teachers, students and parents. The data analysis technique is in the form of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that the form of difficulty in reading the Al-Qur'an for students found in learning at TPQ Modern Al Karim is the difference in children's character which can arise from differences in age, the child's lack of comprehension, difficulty in understanding recitation and lack of response or responsiveness from parents which can also influence the learning development of students. Difficulty reading the Al-Qur'an is caused by a lack of motivation in students, previous habits of reciting the Koran or indeed the child's level of understanding which is not fast enough and lack of parental participation. In its application, the Ummi method has 7 stages, namely, opening, apperception, concept planting, concept understanding, practice/skills, evaluation and closing. The material studied has also been determined by the Ummi Foundation with a target of 1 volume and 40 meetings.
