Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how the efforts of Islamic religious education teachers in overcoming body shaming at Muara Kulam State Junior High School. Then, this research is motivated by the existence of body shaming actions that occur at Muara Kulam State Junior High School, especially in class IX A, this causes the erosion of mutual respect and the increasingly widespread attitude of feeling better than others. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach located at Muara Kulam State Junior High School with the research subjects of Islamic religious education teachers and Class IX A students using observation, interview and documentation data collection techniques. The results of the study prove that there are four forms of body shaming that occur in the school, namely face shaming, fat shaming, skinny shaming and skin shaming. The four forms of body shaming are caused by lack of knowledge, lack of tolerance and not accepting oneself. The efforts of Islamic religious education teachers in overcoming this include; moral guidance, giving sanctions and self-acceptance. The results of all the efforts that Islamic religious education teachers make show that there are significant changes in the behavior of students in class IX A. All of these efforts have the expected success. Class IX A students are able to adapt to differences and respect each other.
